Raven's Knoll is situated on the Bonnechere Riverfront, with beach swimming and access to both Wilber and Golden Lake. The campground is level and well-drained, with whispering white pines providing shade. A number of buildings provide amenities, such as a comfort station with flush toilets, showers and a laundry, as well as a group events building. Pathways run through the properties large forested areas, and communal areas like fire pits have been established. We also have many great plans for the property.
There are a wide variety of camping possibilities at Raven’s Knoll. We have acres of tent camping sites in cleared, yet shaded areas, most with direct access to water taps, many with access to hydro hook-ups. There are un-serviced tent camping sites under dense forest canopy, yet still on cleared flat ground. There are also facilities for trailer camping, both serviced and un-serviced, as well as a dumping station. We do not have defined, set sites; generally camping is wherever suits your needs.
The comfort station has men’s and women’s washrooms, as well as a coin laundry. Each of the washrooms have two coin-operated showers, two flush toilets, as well as a sink, mirror, and power outlet. The comfort station was updated and renovated in 2011.
Raven’s Knoll has over 1,000 feet of accessible waterfront on the Bonnechere River, directly across from Crown land. The waterfront includes a large, groomed sand beach with a shallow drop-off to a slack current river channel of about nine feet in depth. There is also a rustic wharf for launching boats and fishing. A swimming platform was built in 2011. There is also a new wharf for launching boats and fishing. In 2011, a private pond was created near the Fire Pit.
The Rookery is the name for the Raven’s Knoll group activity building. The building includes a very large, illuminated area with a cement floor protected by three walls, which can be filled with tables or cleared for other purposes. Attached to the open area is, a protected back room and food serving area.
The Raven’s Nest is the name for our three season cabin. Sited with privacy from the campground, the cabin can sleep six comfortably in the bedroom and loft, with space for another two people on the living room sofa bed. The cabin also has a kitchen with a stove and refrigerator, as well as a woodstove for heat. (The Raven’s Nest cabin can be rented for a night or longer term. The entire cabin can be rented by an individual, by groups, or space can be occupied by individual hostellers. However, please register early, so as not to be disappointed.)
There are many special use areas available at Raven’s Knoll (many are more are planned). There are forest clearings, walking trails, and communal fire pits. We have a field in the campground area that can be used for sporting activities, sword tourneys, or games, as well as front fields and meadows that can be put to use as parking facilities or archery and axe throwing ranges, amongst other uses. We also have service areas for both ice and firewood sales, for much of the camping season. There are also many installations of an artistic and spiritual nature at Raven’s Knoll, including a Well of the Goddess, a Men’s Cairn, a Standing Stone, a Women’s Shrine, a Mound for the Little People, a Rainbow Tree, and a Birch Grove.
Thanks to the design brilliance of great friends of Raven’s Knoll, the first stage of the Raven Stage was done in 2010. In the next stage, the roof and a storage area will be completed. In the final stage, the head and tail of the Raven will be created. Upon completion, the Raven Stage will appear to be a Raven in flight.
For small events such as weddings, family reunions and group camping, a communal fire pit is available at the end of the main road, near the beach. For larger festivals, a large fire pit was created in 2010 and expanded in 2011. The large fire pit has sand berms around it to act as sound barriers for our neighbours. These will also be expanded in 2012.
In 2011, a chip wagon was added to Raven’s Knoll to act as the campground kitchen. The YAG has been inspected and approved for compliance with health and safety, fire suppression and safety regulations. The YAG is open on work weekends, during festivals and events as required. Please contact us if your event would benefit from having the YAG in operation.
